Rachel and Josh Oliveri's Wedding -- March 30, 2007
We enjoyed reconnecting with Shelli's family in Grant's Pass, Oregon.
Cheri's preparations by way of car games, snacks, and movies helped keep the
children manageable for the 14.5 hour drive, straight, each way. In fact,
when I asked Christian what his favorite part of the trip was, he included
mention of the drive.
Christian with his sisters, Aubrie, Hailee and Emilee, the flower girls, wearing
the dresses Cheri and her mom (Susan Carter) made. They took a lot more
time to sew than what was first estimated, and ran into some technical
difficulties being worn by little girls who step on dresses tearing out a myriad
of tucks. But thanks to some last-minute repairs, they survived through the most important event
-- the ceremony.
Josh Oliveri and Rachel Owen were married in the Applegate Christian Fellowship
church in Ruch, Oregon. That church is one of the most beautiful we've
ever seen, set with a backdrop of a mountain, trees, a stream, and very nicely
appointed, without being ostentatious or gaudy. In the above photo, the
sanctuary rostrum is to the right. The piano is on the left of the
rostrum. That is where I sat to play a song during the couple candle
lighting ceremony and as the couple walked out of the sanctuary. Rachel
approached me the night before to play for the ceremony, which I gladly obliged,
though not without some nervousness inasmuch as we hadn't worked out what she
would want me to play. The first one I did was a variation of of my recent
compositions (not yet committed to writing). The second I made up on the
spot, just for Rachel.

Rachel is my Niece, daughter of my sister Shelli and Bruce Owen, shown above on
the right. She met Josh at a home school event about three years
ago. Josh's mom, Gina, is on the left, with her fiancé.

Pretty tricky getting the flower girls to cooperate during the photo
shoot. The window for a good shot lasted about 1 second during the 5
minutes of wrangling.
Aubrie and Emilee thought it was more fun to wave at the guests than to throw
flower petals as they came into the sanctuary.
Aubrie eats the flowers from her head wreath while Emilee picks her nose, among
other antics during the 30-minute ceremony.

Jessalyn and Danny Sorensen's Wedding -- April 6, 2007
Danny looks to the ring boy. The ceremony was
performed by the Mayor of Manti. Danny will be leaving to serve in Iraq in about
three months. Jessalyn is Cheri's step sister, daughter of Ren Carter, who married Susan,
Cheri's mom.

Hailee waits patiently (at least for the second during which this photo was
taken).
Cheri brought plenty of decorations for the newlywed's car. A team effort
resulted in plenty of accoutrements.

(aka bunny) stashed in the back yard of their former
Manti home where we stayed for Jessalyn and Danny's wedding.

The Owens and the Allans enjoy the beach on the day following the wedding.
We also went to the Redwood forest for a walk and lunch,
stopping first by a wacky shop featuring some of the neatest
twisted-wood-based items. Pictured above, from left to right: Bruce, Mary, Christian, Aubrie, Emilee, Hailee, Shelli, Ruth.
(Not pictured: Sterling and Cheri.)

Christian puts on a puppet show for the girls. It was his idea, from
beginning to end.
Cheri & the kids
Family shot on auto. Luckily, no fingers in noses for this
pose. Note the bare feet -- quintessential garb in the
home-school, home-work household (ditto for the 5:00 shadow on
Dad).
Who said Legos are just for kids. Sterling unwinds
to let some creativity flow with Christian's Lego
set. Should have used the video feature to
demonstrate several moving parts. The whole thing
pivoted easily around on the narrow base. (Apr. 15, 2007)
